Dear lord, the SSU finally went under. I have heard a lot of stories since the end of last year about what was going on with major personal and political issues inside the SSU. I actually thought the uni was just going to let them bumble along union the VSU stuff started to take effect, however i'm glad they stepped in and taken control. All my personal dealings with the SSU are mixed, some of the people there are great and very enthusiastic and passionate about Swinburne and want to see things get done, others get way to caught up in the politics of it all and try and scheme and conjuer shit up to suit their little band of friends needs or just to basically out of spite, it can get real pathetic real fast.
I'm surprised at the amount of fund the SSU has access too, 1.2 million seems like a lot of money for a uni like Swinburne, although if I think about it I can see where a lot of that cash would go, not that I would agree with where it actually goes.
I'm being pretty vague today aren't I?
I'm glad that I decided to this society thing i'm doing as far away from the SSU as I can, they really only hold benefit for very very small clubs or for particular situations, at all other times they are constantly telling you what you can't do, how they can't help you doing certain things or how you MUST do other certain things, it can be and extremely frustrating process.
Anyway, in other news I'm up way to early on a Saturday morning, I drove astro to the city this morning and I must say that driving around Melbourne when the traffic is light is pretty enjoyable. When there is about 20% of the normal traffic on the road you can actually get to where you want to go pretty easily and quickly, most people are polite and not pushy, it's fantastic!
