U2 iPod is dying

So the iPod astro gave me many years ago as the best birthday present ever is now slowly dying. Over the last 6 months or so it has trouble keeping its charge over 24-36 hours, usually I only use it once a day for going home, which is 40 minutes tops, then the next day if I forget to recharge it is flat.

Over the last 2 weeks, it has been having troubles buffering any track over 10 minutes, it basically plays the file but the controls become completely unresponsive for 45 seconds until its recovered and allows me to do stuff. Considering I play a lot of mixes and constantly scan through them all the time, this is pretty crap.

Today I plugged the iPod in to transfer some songs on it, it started to whir and then made some very strange beeping sounds (which is odd because the sound effects should be on mute) and then anapod could recognise anything on the iPod. So after about 30 minutes of stuffing about I cave in and install iTunes to reformat the thing, iTunes then updates my iPod software which requires me to plug it into the AC adapter (why I don't know) to completely update it. My AC adapter is at work so until I get back there tomorrow, it is not usable, merrrrr. On top of this, I now have the most bloated music program in history installed on my PC, meeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr.

So if I don't fix this up soon I'm going to have to consider getting a smartphone, I wanted to wait for the Palm Pre to see if its any good, and I can't afford the $1000+ HTC Touch HD so I might have to bite the bullet and get an iPhone. However most likely I'll just get another iPod, maybe an 8 giger or something like that, or a huge iPod classic, we'll see.

Nooo don't do it, don't cave into an iphone! Everyone has them and they are all Apple fanboys! Wait to get a Pre! The other reason why not to get an iphone is that they retail at $249 (or $199 somewhere) in the US. Ridiculously expensive here. A Chinese mate of mine at work was showing me a 'Ciphone' today... a Chinese replica of the iPhone which is available from China for about $150. :)

You get your mixes from themixingbowl.org too? I have filled up my ipod with mixes now (alongside other albums)...

Hmm, might have to check out this anapod proggy... but I don't mind itunes really. The most bloated program in PC history is Norton *.* by the way...
