So i've been up reading graduate program stuff for the big companies. To my surprise some of the companies started accepting applications a week ago and go up until the end of March. I'm not so sure i'm really keen on going through the motions for these positions, to start with I only have average uni marks, so I believe i'll be chopped out of contention pretty early or, will go through a few of the hoops to only be cut down by that fact later. Also a lot of the positions are based in Sydney, a place I really don't want to move to, although if you are given a great opportunity like that you probably should go. I dunno, I just don't know what the hell I want out of a working life, all I do know is that I am ready to start it but I don't want to jump into a boring go nowhere job.

If you're interested in government type jobs, a lot of the departments open up their graduate applications in March and end at the end of May (some time in May, I think the end, but don't quote me on that).
You might be interested in something like AusAid. I have a feeling you might find that work quite interesting.
AusAid does sound awesome, however I don't think I'd be an ideal candidate for them. Although from reading the graduate profiles I dare say that you would be an excellent one GG.
Don't count yourself out of the running. Give it a red hot go and you might surprise them and yourself!
It's worth having a look around the other departments. Working for the government as your first job after uni might not bring in the huge bucks at the start, but there are the benefits of the job security and room to move. And working with massive contracts, which is also interesting.
I might have a crack at a few, I had a read of some of the other departments and they interest me and are looking for people from my education background (Here is hoping they don't mind the below average grades!). Although 90% of the jobs are in Canberra! Which wouldn't be so bad but you know, I have a lot here in Victoria I hold dear to me.
Also, I think the pay from those graduate positions are excellent! nearly all of them of them are 40k+ and increase around 20% after the graduate assignments finish (plus all the great benefits) I'd be quite happy to start out that way! (Money is not so important if you like your job).
40k + is good money, but not what you would be making in the private sector. I'd be over the moon with anything between 30 and 40 in my first job, but I know a lot of people who would be pissed off if that's what they were getting paid (greedy knobs).
I have a friend (whom you have met on several occasions) who got a grad. position in a dept in Melbourne with a few fails on the old transcripteroo. So they are definitely not put off by people actually being human and not getting straight HDs. hehe.
